Resources for ICT Functional Skills
This quote from the QCA demonstrates an important aspect of understanding ICT Functional Skills – and is relevant when considering resources:
It is essential to think of learners becoming functional with their ICT , rather than thinking that there is a vital body of knowledge known as “Functional Skills”.
It’s also useful to consider that the assessment of functional skills requires your students to achieve a relatively high pass mark; high enough that they must demonstrate their ability to function in all the different areas of the ICT Functional Skills curriculum to achieve it – even when they are presented with questions set in very unfamiliar contexts.
The Guroo service gives you and your students a great collection of Functional Skills resources for ICT at entry levels 1-3, level 1 and level 2:
- Learning challenges that set functional ICT in relevant, real-life scenarios that are constructed to help your students practice their functional ICT skills in different ways
- Online and printable materials
- Functional ICT quizzes
- My Functional Skills™ tracking and reporting
… plus a purpose-built Functional Skills Initial Assessment and Diagnostic system.
Delivered as an online service, Guroo includes multimedia and flash-based activities suitable for delivery on whiteboards and in ICT suites as well as anytime, anywhere with internet access.
But your colleagues who are less “ICT confident” will appreciate that Guroo includes Functional Skills that are not purely online. For example, many materials can be downloaded and used on paper, we supply curriculum mappings on large format posters, and every Challenge includes comprehensive Teacher Notes and lesson plans for ICT Functional Skills sessions.
… and the Guroo service includes our “beyond training” Active Engagement Plan where our educational consultants work with you to integrate and embed Functional Skills in your ICT classes.
