Resources for Maths Functional Skills
When looking at resources for mathematics Functional Skills, it’s worth bearing in mind this quote from the QCA:
It is essential to think of learners becoming functional with their maths, rather than thinking that there is a vital body of knowledge known as “Functional Skills”.
To gain a pass in maths Functional Skills, your students have to be able to demonstrate their ability to function in maths across all the different areas – even when they are presented with questions set in contexts that are totally unfamiliar to them.
The Guroo service gives you and your students access to a great collection of Functional Skills resources designed specifically for mathematics at entry levels 1-3, level 1 and level 2, plus resources that include mathematics alongside English and ICT:
- Learning challenges that set functional maths in relevant, real-life contexts that are constructed to help your students practice their functional mathematics skills
- Online and printable materials
- Functional maths quizzes
- My Functional Skills™ tracking and reporting
… plus an Initial Assessment and Diagnostic system that is purpose-built for Functional Skills.
Many maths teachers appreciate that the Guroo service includes Functional Skills resources for maths that are not purely online.
For example, many materials can be downloaded and used on paper, we supply curriculum mappings on large format posters, and every Challenge includes comprehensive Teacher Notes and lesson plans for mathematics Functional Skills sessions.
The functional maths lesson plans include versions you can use in a typical maths department classroom – you dont have to be in an ICT suite to use Guroo! Indeed, the Guroo service includes our “beyond training” Active Engagement Plan where our educational consultants can work with you to integrate and embed Functional Skills in your classes.
