How do functional skills impact on the Achievement and Attainment Tables?

Our objective is to improve student achievement.

We do this by building realistic and relevant learning materials that really engage and hold student’s attention, provide tutors with materials they value and provide senior management with evidence of engagement and improvement.

Guroo uses real life themes and situations to present students with a range of problems they can solve using functional mathematics, many with links to Functional English and ICT.

Each theme has been chosen so students can practice process and technical skills in a range of familiar and unfamiliar situations leading to competence then mastery of those skills.

A key issue reported to us by early Functional Skills and Diploma Pilot sites has been that students need to practice using Mathematical Skills using lots of different scenarios.

We have produced curriculum and standards mapping tables to guide teachers towards each scenario that can be used with each process or mathematical skill.
