How will functional skills be assessed?

Functional Skills are a must pass element of all Diplomas. They are a standalone qualification and are in addition to other qualifications such as GCSE and ALAN. Passing all three Functional Skills at level 2 gives students the equivalent of 1½ GCSE passes at A*-C. A level 1 pass counts as 1½ passes at D-G.

The final Diploma grade will be based on the combined assessment of Principal Learning and the Project. Work experience and PLTs are not assessed. English, mathematics and ICT Functional Skills are must pass elements of all Diplomas at the relevant level up to level 2. At the moment, Functional Skills do not exist at level 3 or higher.
